I'm not the world's biggest RTS fan but there are some games in the genre that I just can't ignore.
If you've not played the original Starcraft then you should go find it right now and play through it. It was one of the first RTS games to break away from the traditional game mechanics of the genre and is one of the most important titles in PC gaming history!
Starcraft 2 looks fantastic so far. They've continued the excellent story from the original game/expansion pack which makes me even more interested in this. Also the familiar units are there but there are some subtle (and some not so subtle) changes which represents the advances made between the two games.
There is something that worries me and that's the news that this will be part 1 of 3 games. Now, it might well be that they each constitute a proper full game and/or add-on packs, but there's always the worry that the "cash cow" mindset has sunk in and we'll only get the equvilent of one game between all of them. No one knows yet and there's a lot or arguing both ways.
Just like the Valve/L4D2 fiasco it's a case of wait and see.
Anyway, take a look at this spiffy Gametrailers Vid of StarCraft 2!
